Using GPG with Gmail to Become an Ubuntero

Encrypting and signing email has its advantages. Linux has one of the best digital encrypter/signer. It's called GPG (Gnu Privacy Guard) and is solely text based, though like apt-get, there are front-ends which aren't entirely necessary (including SeaHorse). GPG can be used to encrypt files, emails, and text. It can also be used to sign documents, that is to show that the email, document, file, or whatever did actually originate from yourself and was not tampered with before the recipient received it. How does that sound?

Digital security with GnuPG plugins

The GNU Privacy Guard (GnuPG) allows you to encrypt, decrypt, sign, and verify communications and data, as well as create and manage the keys needed for these tasks. It is a full, open source implementation of the OpenPGP Standard (RFC2440) and is integrated into many Linux applications ranging from clipboard applets to instant messaging clients. These applications make it easy to use GnuPG for digital security in the GNOME desktop environment.

The applications we introduce in this article use GnuPG almost transparently, and you can get by without knowing too much about encryption or digital security.

FireGPG no proporciona por sí mismo la capacidad de cifrar, firmar y verificar, sino que se requiere una instalación previa de GnuPG, siendo también conveniente disponer de algún interfaz gráfico desde el que poder gestionar claves y demás...

How to create a command-line password vault

Like many people, I have too many passwords to remember. To keep them straight, I wrote a simple password security script using dialog and GnuPG (GNU Privacy Guard). The script prompts the user for a master password using a dialog box, unencrypts a file that holds a list of passwords, and opens the file in a text editor. When the editor is closed, the script re-encrypts the password file.

Using GPG With Mozilla Thunderbird

It’s a morning of security. What can I say? I just updated my GPG keypair, and after hitting “publish”, I thought to myself “Why not write a quick tutorial on using GPG with Thunderbird?”. So, here it is.
